Date: 15th of Harvest, XXXX

Today is my birthday. I should be happy, but I'm not. My mother is sick, and no one can help her. She has a fever, a cough, and a pain in her chest. She can barely speak or breathe. I don't know what to do. I'm scared.

I went to the castle today, hoping to find my father. He's the lord of this town, but he doesn't care about me or my mother. He has a wife and a son, who are his true family. He never visits us, he never sends us anything, he never acknowledges us. He pretends we don't exist.

But I thought maybe, just maybe, he would help us in our time of need. Maybe he would have some medicine, or a healer, or something. Maybe he would show some compassion, some kindness, some love.

I was wrong.

He wouldn't even see me. He sent his guards to chase me away. They called me names, they threw stones at me, they laughed at me. They said I was a bastard, a whore's daughter, a stain on his honor. They said I should die with my mother.

I ran away, crying and bleeding. I hate him. I hate him so much.

I came back to our shop, where my mother was lying on her bed. She looked worse than before. She barely recognized me. She whispered something in my ear, but I couldn't hear her. She closed her eyes and stopped breathing.

I thought she was dead.

I screamed and cried and hugged her body. I prayed to anyone who would listen. I begged for a miracle.

And then I heard a voice.

It was not my mother's voice, nor my father's voice, nor anyone I knew. It was a strange voice, cold and calm and powerful. It said:

"You, my child, are my Avatar in this world. I can make you into a very powerful person. Your mother will live; however, she will hate to see what you have finally become. I am sorry."

I didn't understand what it meant. I didn't care who it was or what it wanted. I only cared about one thing: my mother's life.

I said yes.

And then everything changed.

16th of Harvest, XXXX
My mother is alive.

She woke up this morning, looking healthy and strong. She had no fever, no cough, no pain. She could speak and breathe normally. She was cured.
But she was not happy

.
She looked at me with horror and disgust. She screamed and pushed me away. She called me a monster, a demon, a curse. She said I had sold my soul to the devil.

She was right.

I had changed overnight. My skin had turned from pale to lavender. My teeth had sharpened into fangs. My hair had darkened from blonde to black. And most noticeably, two horns had grown from my forehead.

I know I'm no longer a human...but what am I?

The voice that spoke to me yesterday spoke to me again today. It told me its name: Sveltier, and we were going to do great things together.

I don't know what to think or feel anymore. Who am I?

17th of Harvest, XXXX
They came for us today.

The guards of the castle stormed into our shop, led by Lord Fredrick himself. They accused us of witchcraft and heresy. They said we had consorted with evil forces and brought shame upon the town.

They said we had to die. The guards dragged us to the town square, where a large pyre was prepared. They tied us to wooden stakes and piled dry wood around us and lit a fire, prepared to watch us burn.

They all cheered and jeered and mocked us; saying we deserved it. They were wrong...we didn't die; we survived.

Sveltier's power protected us from the flames. He spoke to me and told me what I needed to do. He gave me the power and strength.

I broke free from the ropes that bound me and reached for my mother's hand, but he stopped me.  I stared into my mother's eyes, a mix of sorrow and hatred. Wings sprouted from my back as I took flight. Flying away from the town while my mother's screams echoed through the alleys. I flew away from everything I had ever known, everything I had loved. I flew away from Lord Fredrick, who stared at me with a mix of shock and rage. He shouted something at me, but I couldn't hear him. He looked like he wanted to kill me. He looked like he was frightened of me.

He looked like my father.
