The Creation - Population

"...humans." Life smiled at the naked humans in front of her being naked as well as naked as she could be as a changing Eternal. "That is your name, your being, your purpose."

She could see that they were confused, lost on words, so she explained that she was the Eternal Life and the skeleton - now in the form of a human skeleton wearing a black robe, emitting small streams of smoke and darkness out of it - next to her was the Eternal Death, who while guide them to the afterlife when they reach the end of their lifespan.

The humans were confused. At first. Then they started to spread out, making love, building small settlements, gathering resources for clothes and food. They learned much faster than the Eternals had anticipated and so music and art appeared after a few years.

They worshipped both. Life and Death. Built altars, churches, started to harvest. Life and Death were satisfied with their new species, even as they started to argue with each other about words the Eternals may have or may haven't said.

The Eternals never intervened into those affairs, they wanted to see how their experiment, their new beloved humans, would develop.

As the first human died - stone to the head, envy was a thing in human society - Death greeted him with his black robe and kind words and delivered him to the afterlife designed for humans. The human took it as good as someone could take being dead. He was quickly followed by a woman and her kids who drowned by accident.

The afterlife filled rather quickly because the humans couldn't live long, only a few dozen years. The Eternals thought about that and started to design new species. And with that they started to experiment again.

The elves were the next species to see the light of day. This time the Eternals thought it would be better to have a self-sustaining species without the need for a specific counterpart, they could just reproduce with another elf. So they built both sex in one being and created more of them before placing them into the forests and meadows.

It was a success, the elves populated and showed a few design errors which both of the Eternals haven't seen before.

The first one was that the humans mostly liked one sex and it lead to serious heartaches.

The second one was that the elves couldn't change into the opposite sex when they were pregnant which lead to some grieve and heartbreak, but it was just temporarily since the pregnancy didn't last long. After discovering this there were a lot less heartbreaks happening, but still.

After a few centuries the elves split up into three ethnicities and that was the moment the Eternals laughed of joy, the elves decided on their own. The first gods appeared, brought to life by humans and elves. They talked with the Eternals, even as confused as the Eternals were. Together they discovered that the beings the Eternals created had the power to create gods on their own just by believing in them. The only beings not affected by this were the Eternals since they were the creators. An interesting development, but nothing serious.

The afterlife for the elves were for all ethnicities the same: a huge forests with streams and meadows and opportunities to build their homes in. They could do whatever they wanted without the pain of life.

The next three races were the Garladans, the Dwarves and the Underlings. And interesting detail was missing because somehow Druids came into existence, a smaller version of the Eternal Life, a mirror image of her own power.

Death wanted to attempt creating life of his own and he created the Giants, the Trolls, the Orcs and the Ogres. Life tried it as well with the Goblins ("Let them have something to play with") but it was this moment where the humans brought war over the continent, a time called "Clash of Nations" later in the history books.

The afterlives filled quickly and it broke the heart of Life. Death accompanied her but it was his duty to perform the act of kindness he showed the First Dead on other dead. Thousands died and Life wept.
